Oven to 350

A place where we share the latest news, things on the horizon and general musings of the bakers. This will take a rather free-form approach, and will be written by Catherine (hence the free-form approach as often her thoughts are all over the place, and yet somehow strangely focused).

I’ve wanted to start some kind of blog-y thing on our website for some time. A spot where you can check on the latest developments and get some insight into how/why we do things at deda’s. We do our best to share news face-to-face, which is a fantastic way to gauge your interest in things and get general input. But alas – even I can’t talk that much! (and that’s saying something). So here is our attempt at keeping our community informed….

Let’s see, what to start with….Oh, I know….starting April 8th, we will be open on Sundays from 8:30 am to 2 pm! Now when I shared this possibility on Facebook – and asked for feedback – I was rather touched by some of the responses. Two incredibly considerate ladies came in and expressed their concern that we might be over-extending ourselves a wee bit by opening on Sundays, as well as expanding to dinners. That was very, very kind. Yes, we are eager to expand our offerings. And yes, we sometimes have more ideas than we know what to do with…but the move to dinners and Sundays has been in the works for a time. We just needed to find a few more amazing team members who could help us reach those goals. And we did – or rather, they found us. We now believe we have enough people on hand to start expanding a bit more. Hence, opening on Sundays.

Another reason we would like to open on Sundays – the parking lot is more accessible. It’s no secret to anyone who has tried to park during the business week, that the parking lot is…er….a challenge. What with all the semi delivery trucks throughout the day, people often find they cannot easily enter or exit the parking lot. We knew our location was not exactly retail-friendly, but didn’t realize it would become so problematic. For that we sincerely apologize. And extend our deepest gratitude to those of you who boldly go to our bakery and are willing to accept the parking lot challenge!

Seriously though, there is nothing that we can do about the delivery trucks (we’ve asked)- but we can move our hours around so that we’re open when it’s less of an issue (later in the mornings, evenings and on weekends the parking lot is more open). We are also looking at a second location – here in Vancouver – that will be more accessible to all in search of something yummy.

We will start with opening on Sundays, and when we feel we are ready – we will start offering dinners. Dinners will most likely be offered on Saturdays to start, and then more evenings if our community would like to see that happen. Dinners will feature tapas/small plates, hot sandwiches, beer & wine and a few other offerings.

As for Sundays – we’re finalizing the menu as we wanted to offer a few specialties on Saturdays and Sundays. We will feature new breakfast sandwiches & pastries, additional lunch options, iced coffee and house-made tea beverages and probably a few other sweets & savories that reflect our passion for seasonal baking!
